Cathy Lockard
Nutritionist
I’m Dr. Cathy Lockard, a livestock nutritionist with a Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition from Oklahoma State University. I’m originally from Pocatello, Idaho, and I’ve built my career on a foundation of scientific and practical experience. During my graduate career my research focused on ruminant nutrition, feedlot production, and animal metabolism. After completing my Ph.D., I served as a research scientist for USDA in Bushland, Texas, where I worked on methods to reduce methane emissions in feedlot cattle.
Now I’m based in Great Falls, Montana, where I’ve lived with my family for the past four years. My husband, Caleb, and I co-lead Headwaters Livestock Consulting. Outside of work, I’m a proud mom to Rose (6) and Xavier (3), who keep us very busy!
Our company provides science-based solutions to improve livestock performance, sustainability, and profitability. I specialize in on-farm consulting, working directly with producers to formulate custom rations, troubleshoot nutritional challenges, and implement data-driven strategies tailored to each operation. My approach is grounded, collaborative, and informed by years of field experience.

Sales
I’m originally from Aurora, a small town in southwest Missouri. I grew up working on a commercial cow-calf operation and was active in 4-H and FFA, which sparked my interest in agriculture.
I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University. My graduate research focused on health and management practices for high-risk receiving cattle. After graduation, I worked for a cattle feeding operation in Amarillo, Texas, and later at a research feedlot in Bushland, Texas.
Four years ago, my family and I moved to Great Falls, Montana. My wife, Cathy, and I own and operate Headwaters Livestock Consulting. We have two children, Rose and Xavier. We enjoy Montana’s outdoors and are committed to helping ranchers build sustainable, successful operations through nutrition, health, and management.
